Here in Ohio we have a superb sunny Saturday, and all of the Spring flowers have started to shoot up! It is about 2 weeks until we will be leaving for Kenya (16 days to be exact, not including today), and we couldn’t be more excited!
We’ve both been enjoying our last weeks here by spending time with family and friends, and I (Rachel) won’t say that it hasn’t been stressful getting ready for this trip, but I will say that God has given me a lot of peace through it all. People ask me if I’m worried or scared about going, with all of the dangers that are and have been happening over in Africa. I’m not going to lie and say that I’m not anxious and that I have no fear, because there are sometimes that I do. But something that God has been showing me A LOT lately is completely surrendering to Him and having faith that HE has everything in His hands. I am confident in HIM!
When I have started to feel stressed and anxious (whether it be about the trip or anything it may be), He stops me and tells me “Rachel, don’t you trust me? Don’t you know that I will provide for you? That I know what I’m doing?” And just like that, His peace (that surpasses ALL understanding) comes over me. God doesn’t want me to worry, He wants me to have faith!
Luke 12:24-34(NLT) are verses that help me snap out of it and make me realize how foolish I am when I worry, I’m sure there are those of you who are familiar with it:
“Look at the ravens. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for God feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than any birds!
Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?
And if worry can’t accomplish a little thing like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things?
Look at the lilies and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are.
And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?
And don’t be concerned about what to eat and what to drink. Don’t worry about such things.
These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers all over the world, but your Father already knows your needs.”
Speaking of flowers and birds of the air, here are a few photos that I took today whilst enjoying this beautiful weather.
